Badminton: Teen / Adult Open Badminton
January – December on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6 – 7 am and 7:30 – 9:30 pm in the McAfee gym on EIU campus for ages 12 and older. Join Kevin Hussey for an opportunity to play badminton with family and friends. Multiple courts are available. FREE! No registration is required. Dates and times subject to change. Walk to Wellness
May 1st – August 31st. Would you like to win two tickets to see a Major League Baseball Team? Well, start walking! This Spring, sign up for Walk to Wellness. You could win two tickets for a September game! Your mission is to walk or run a total of 266 miles between May 1st and August 31st. Why 266 miles? It’s the straight-line distance between Busch Stadium and Wrigley Field! Progress reports, required at the end of the month, via email (recsup@co.coles.il.us) or by hard copy, may be mailed to our office (520 Jackson Ave.) or dropped in any water bill drop box (addressed to the Parks & Rec. Dept.) Those who reach the monthly goal will have a chance to win some great prizes! If you miss a month, don’t worry, just catch up! On August 31st, those who complete the entire distance of 266 miles will be entered into a raffle to win two tickets to see an MLB Team! Walk to Wellness is done on the honor system – don’t be the few who ruin it for the many! Contact the Charleston Park and Recreation office for more information or to obtain a progress report. Aqua Aerobics
Every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from June 4th- August 10th at the Charleston Rotary Pool from 5:30-6:30pm for ages 14 and up. Jump in, splash around, and stay in shape. Fee: $5 per class or $25 punch card (good for 6 classes). Visit www.charlestonillinois.org or call 345-6897.

Volunteer At Friendship Garden
Every Monday and Thursday from 1-3p.m.at Douglas-Hart Nature Center’s Friendship Garden. A gardener’s dream with a wide variety of horticultural plants. Located at the corner of Layfette Avenue and17th Street in Mattoon, the garden is very popular over the lunch hour for adults and after school with families. Refreshments will be served at the end. Conservation Crew At Douglas-Hart Nature Center
Every Monday– Friday from 9 a.m.-Noon at the Douglas-Hart Nature Center. Throughout the year our conservation crew is working hard removing invasive species, collecting seeds, working in the greenhouse and a variety of other conservation projects. Lincoln Log Cabin – Annual Bluegrass Jam
August 12th from 10:00 AM- 4PM. “The annual bluegrass jam session will be held at Lincoln Log Cabin State Historic Site on Sunday, August 12th from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Anyone with a love of this traditional style of music is welcome. Those who play an instrument are encouraged to bring theirs along and join in a jam session with one of the many informal groups playing in the park. Run for the Fallen
August 18th from 7:00 am – 1:00 pm at the Charleston High School Track.
Honoring Illinois service members who have died in Iraq and Afghanistan. The event begins at 7 a.m. and participants can come any time until at 1 p.m. Participants are asked to walk or run one mile for a fallen service member of their choice, or one can be assigned to them. The event is not competitive, it is meant to honor the fallen, and is non-political and free to the public. For more information go to the Run for the Fallen Illinois Facebook page.

Coles County Cop Chase Glow Run
September 7th begins and ends at the LifeSpan Center. Registration begins at 6:30pm. 1 mile Fun Run starts at 7:30pm and 5k begins at 8:30pm. Fee: $20 with a t-shirt. Register before August 20th to guarantee a shirt. Fee day of registration will be $25. Proceeds will benefit the Coles County Coucil on Aging. Participants are encouraged to wear items that glow.
