Lake Charleston Trails

Visit Lake Charleston for hiking, biking, walking, running, bird watching, fishing. Story Time

Ninja Warrior Classes

Tuesdays/Monthly 5-6pm or 6-7pm. Wednesdays/monthly 5-6pm or 6-7pm at Phoenix Elite, 1101 N Loxa Rd, Mattoon. Ages 5-12. $50/month. Train like a Ninja Warrior at Phoenix Elite. Class includes strength and coordination training. Obstacles include two warped walls, cargo net, rope swing, spider wall, monkey bars hurdles, and more. Story Time & Snuggles

Last Wednesday of every month at 10am at the Douglas-Hart Nature Center. Take your little ones to a relaxing morning read filled with crafts and play time. (teddy bears and stuffed animals are allowed) To register online, email programs@dhnature.org or call the nature center at 217-235-4644.

C.A.R.E. Club

3rd Thursday of every month, 4-6pm at Douglas-Hart Nature Center. Ages 12-17 – Free! Douglas-Hart Nature Center is looking for members for our new Caring for Animals with Respect and Education (C.A.R.E.) Club! C.A.R.E. Club members will learn basic care and handling skills for turtles, salamanders, rabbits, and more! Members who meet volunteer goals will earn a free t-shirt and become Certified Animal Handlers at DHNC.

Budding Naturalist

First Friday of every month at 10am at the Douglas-Hart Nature Center. Take your little to a fun day of adventures while learning about nature and its inhabitants. 1$ per person. Goat Yoga

9-10:30am, Saturdays, at Lincoln Log Cabin for ages 14-18yo, 15$/person/class. Special instructor Linda Ross will be teaming up with the Lincoln Log Cabin for teaching yoga to the community while being surrounded and sometimes under baby goats! AMC Sensory Friendly Films

2nd and 4th Saturday each month at AMC Theatre. AMC is proud to partner with the Autism Society to offer unique movie showings where we turn the lights up, and turn the sound down, so you can get up, dance, walk, shout or sing! Youth Open Gym

November-March, Noon-2pm (Sundays) for youth in 1st-12th grades at the CHS West Gym 1615 Lincoln Ave, Charleston. 3$ per person/ per session. (Closed Dec 22, Dec 29, Mar 15). Bring your own basketball and come let off steam playing games such as HORSE and Pick Up.

Teen/Adult Open Gym

November-April, 8-10pm Tuesdays, 3$/per person at Jefferson Elementary Gym- 106 9th street Charleston. Bring your own basketball and come play some different games with your pals. Watch the newspaper/Facebook for exact dates.

Lincoln Log Cabin – Saturday Story Series

November 2, at 9:00 AM at Lincoln Log Cabin Visitor Center. Stories feature the reading of a historically-themed children’s book, followed by activities and crafts which help to engage youngsters in our American history and bring the stories to life. The programs, geared towards ages 3-10, are free and open to the public. All youth must be accompanied by an adult.

Miss Brenda’s Preschool Story Time

November 4, 1:15pm – 1:45p Charleston Carnegie Public Library .Miss Brenda’s Preschool Story time will be held beginning September 16, 2019, and end on December 2, 2019. The same program will be presented 3 times. Twice on Mondays from 10:30 to 11:00 am and from 1:15 to 1:45 pm. Repeating on Tuesdays at 10:30. All three story times will be in the Craft Room in Kidspace.  Children ages 3-5 are invited to join Miss Brenda for stories and crafts reflecting the fun associated with fall.  This is a free program, open to the public.  A library card is not needed to attend.

Robotics Classes

Session 3: November 4-25th, 3:30-5pm (Mondays) for ages 9-14. $25/child. At Jefferson School, Mrs. Cline’s room. The Charleston Rec Dept & CUSD are teaming up to offer a unique LEGO opportunity. Join other LEGO fanatics in learning how to create and program super robots. Sessions will work on improving your programming and building skills. Wrestling Club

Wall Hanging DIY

Make and Take

Girls on the Run

November 9, at 9:00 am at the Mattoon Area Family YMCA, 221 N 16th St Mattoon, IL 61938. Girls on the Run of East Central Illinois will host its 5k event to celebrate Girl-Hood. During the ten-week program, girls participate in lessons that foster confidence, build peer connections and encourage community service while they prepare for an end-of-season celebratory 5k event. Come and support fellow girls!

Mattoon Veteran’s Day Parade

November 11 at 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM. Parade starts at 10:00 a.m. Ceremony at Peterson Park (6th Street and Broadway Avenue) at 11:00 a.m.  All are welcome following the parade to meet at Peterson Park and participate in the Veteran’s Day Ceremony.

LEAF MAN

November 11 from 10a.m. – Noon at the Douglas-Hart Nature Center for ages 4-6. Fee – $6/Non-Member, $4/Member. You will go where the wind blows to find Leaf Man on this morning adventure that includes story time, leaf collecting, leaf matching, and a leaf craft! EAGLE EYE

November 11 from 10a.m. – 3p.m. at the Douglas-Hart Nature Center for ages 7-12. Fee – $12/Non-Member, $10/Member. What a great way to honor Veteran’s Day by learning about a symbol of our freedom – the Bald Eagle! Participants will use their eagle eye to spot the differences between our raging raptors . . . eagles, hawks, and falcons. Please dress for indoor and outdoor play. Family Movie Toy Story 4

November 12, 4pm – 6pm located in the Charleston Carnegie Public Library. Families, come and watch “Toy Story 4” Rated G, with us on the Big Screen in Rotary Room. Feel free to bring your own snacks and drinks! Children under 8 must bring an adult.  This program is open to the public; no library card required.

Teen Movie Shazam!

November 14, 4:00pm – 6:30pm. Charleston Carnegie Public Library. Teens, come and watch “Shazam!” (PG-13) on our big screen in Rotary Room B. Feel free to bring your own snacks and drinks! This free program is for teens ages 13-18.

Kids Chess Club

November 16th and 30th from 10:00 AM – 11:00 AM at the Mattoon Public Library in the Programing Room. Kids Chess Club is an opportunity for kids from grades 2 through 12 to come and play against other players of their own age or to learn the basics of the game.

Teen Craftivity

November 19, 4pm – 5pm at the Charleston Carnegie Public Library. Craftivity is for Middle and High Schoolers and this craft will be Pendulum Painting! In the spirit of friendship and collaborative art, we are going to create a giant painting using a suspended bottle of paint whirling around & flinging paint. 

Library Legos

November 21, 4pm – 5pm. Charleston Carnegie Public Library in Rotary Room A. This event is for Grades K-8. Kids under eight, please bring a grownup. If you love Legos, join us as we build together, take on challenges, show off building skills, and just have fun.  

Mattoon Lightworks

November 22-December 25. Holidays in Mattoon mean Lightworks in Peterson Park.  Drive through Peterson Park to see the light displays, many animated. Open each evening at 5pm till 9pm Sun.-Thurs. and till 10pm Friday and Saturday. FREE admission, donations welcome.

Candy Cane Christmas Parade

November 23rd at 1pm. Parade line up begins at noon at 21st Street and Western Avenue.  Line up for the holiday festivities in Mattoon! For more information, visit www.mattoon.illinois.gov.

THE TURKEY BALL

November 27 from 10a.m. – Noon at the Douglas-Hart Nature Center for ages 4-6. Fee – $6/Non-Member, $4/Member. Gobble and wobble during the turkey ball! This turkey ball will be featuring a story, craft, game, dancing and other totally turkey activities. It wouldn’t be complete without a classic Thanksgiving treat – pumpkin pie! GOBBLE ‘TIL YOU WOBBLE

November 27 from 10a.m. – 3p.m. at the Douglas-Hart Nature Center for ages 7-12. Fee – $12/Non-Member, $10/Member. During school breaks kids need to run wild – just like turkeys do! Join us for a fun day of games, crafts, and outdoor exploration as we “hunt” for a Thanksgiving turkey. Plus, kids will make tasty treats to enjoy at their family Thanksgiving celebration. Lincoln Log Cabin – Old Fashioned Christmas on the Prairie

December 7 at 3:00 PM at the Lincoln Log Cabin. Get away from the bustle of holiday chores and come out to the farms to relax or take a brisk walk around the farms. Let the kids make some crafts, enjoy hot wassail and cookies in the Visitor Center, walk to the Lincoln Farm and smell gingerbread baking and enjoy caroling in the Visitor Center.
