Ballard Nature Center

For a day of family fun, head over to the Ballard Nature Center. Walking trails crisscross through distinctive Illinois ecosystems, giving you glimpses of woodlands, prairies, wetlands, and savannas. Explore the area with the guidance of the center’s naturalists or pack a picnic and relax at the spot of your choosing. Saturday mornings 8am-noon on the courthouse square in Effingham. Local farmers, crafters, artisans, and vendors have many items available for purchase. Something for everyone!

Relay Turns Pink 5k & 1 Mile Fun Run

October 19th from 9:00 AM – 12:00 PM  at the Workman Sports Complex. Join the Relay For Life of Effingham County for their 2nd Annual Relay Turns Pink 5k & 1 Mile Color Run! Money raised at this event is earmarked towards breast cancer research and patient programs!

The 5k & 1 Mile is noncompetitive. Cancer Survivors and children under the age of 10 can register for free! Children under the age of 10 must be accompanied by a legal guardian. There are 2 PINK color stations throughout the route! There will be Women’s Health vendors and local doctor’s offices set up from 9:00am – Noon. The event is rain or shine. Creeps and Treats

October 19 from 4:00 pm – 5:30 pm at Ballard Nature Center. Live animal presentation with some creepy critters. We will also take a hike on the decorated trail and receive some treats from the “animals.” Non-scary. Pre-register. 618-483-6856.

Fall 2019 Effingham Coin, Currency and Stamp Show

October 20th from 9:00 AM – 3:00 PM at the Thelma Keller Convention Center. Interested in coins, money or stamp collecting?  Be sure to stop by Thelma Keller Convention Center, 1202 N. Keller Dr. (IL Routes 32 & 33) in Effingham. Show hours for the public is from 9am to 3pm. There will be interested dealers from Eastern Missouri, Southern and Central Illinois, and Western Indiana – if you find that this show would be of interest, please send your postal address by e-mail to doranillinois@yahoo.com or call (217) 663-0276. Applications will be mailed out soon to dealers who are interested. Flyers will be circulated at various shows and public places in the area.

2019 Superhero Challenge

October 26th at 9:00 AM at the Workman Sports Complex. HSHS St. Anthony’s Memorial Hospital will host a 5k walk/run, 10K run and kids run. This event is a timed race and physical challenge that promotes the community to participate in a family fun day! 55th Annual Illinois State Fiddle Contest

October 26-27 at the Effingham Performance Center. The 2019 Fiddle Fest includes late afternoon jams starting at 4 p.m., followed by band performances at 7 p.m. Saturday, October 26. The 55th Annual Illinois State Fiddle Contest starts at 1 pm Sunday, October 27. Admission for each day of the Fiddle Fest is $5, along with taxes and fees. The contest registration fee is $8 in advance either via the web site or hard copy form mailed to previous contestants and $10 on the contest day. Entries are due before 12:30 pm on October 27.  Contestants who register in advance must STILL CHECK IN before 12:30 p.m. on Sunday, October 27. Visit www.visiteffinghamil.com.
